Adam Jozwiak, UCR Assistant Professor The Metabolomics Core at UCR has been a tremendous support for our research.
Using their MALDI mass spectrometry imaging system allowed us to visualize
metabolite distribution in plant vasculature and better understand transport processes
and the team was incredibly helpful throughout method optimization until we obtained
excellent data. The staff are not only highly professional but also genuinely friendly and
easy to work with and we consider the Metabolomics Core an invaluable resource for
research at UCR.
Alexandra White, UCR Postdoc I have been recently working with the metabolomics core to identify an unidentified
plant metabolite. Before working with the core, I had no experience with LC-MS or
metabolomics data processing, yet doing metabolomics work is central to my
hypothesis. The staff has not only been extremely helpful with my experimental design,
sample preparation, and data analysis, but they are also incredibly friendly and easy to
work with. We have had some exciting results from this experiment, and I could not
have done it without the help of the core staff.
Dang Le, UCR Graduate Student The Metabolomics Core has been instrumental in my research, providing not only
access to facilities and instrumentation but meaningful mentorship from experts! Despite
beginning with little hands-on experience, the core personnel invested time to train me
in GC-MS workflows, allowing me to shadow from sample prep to post run analysis. For
me, the Core is not just a service facility, but a training environment that greatly
enhanced my graduate school learning and interest in metabolomics.
Zixuan Gong, UCR Graduate StudentThe Metabolomics Core has been highly supportive in assisting my liquid
chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) experiments aimed at quantifying organic
composition in tire wear particles. Guided by their extensive expertise, I successfully
designed methodologies to detect and quantify harmful components commonly found in
non-exhaust emissions. Their support streamlined my experimental procedures and
data analysis, while also deepening my understanding of LC-MS workflow and data
interpretation.
Cameron Zappetta, UCR Graduate Student Working with the metabolomics core made my first foray into mass spectrometry
comfortable and allowed us to complete a project that our lab has wanted to do but didn't
have the machinery or expertise to do on our own. They made themselves available to teach
me from the very basics to now being comfortable with doing all of the analysis on my own
with little to no help. I am eternally grateful to the metabolomics core and recommend to
everyone interested in LC-MS or metabolomics to reach out to them.
Lida Halilovic, UCR Graduate Student The resources and staff of the Metabolomics Core were invaluable in advancing my
graduate research and in strengthening my skills as a scientist. The team provided
personalized guidance on experimental design, sample preparation for metabolomics,
metabolite extraction, and analyzing raw data to generate meaningful results. Because
of the careful planning and rigorous procedures the Core helped me implement, my
results from multiple experiments were consistently high quality. The Core offers
graduate students a rare opportunity for in-depth training in LC-MS and metabolomics
that would be difficult to obtain elsewhere, making it an exceptional resource for the
UCR campus and its students.
